Hi there folks! It’s Old Man Ray here, I’m still feeling so excited to be on site, I pinch myself every day that this is real and happening finally. February's been a whirlwind, let me tell you. It's like watching a phoenix rise from the ashes, this place, and I'm just thrilled to be a part of it.
First things first, the hoarding. They're not just there to keep folks out and safe from the construction site, you know. They're a canvas! We finished painting them up in Feb, and got all the boards fitted nice and snug. Gives the place a proper sense of identity with the new branding! Though, I must admit, seeing some vandalism crop up really got me down. We're building something special for Nottingham, something for everyone, and I just hope folks will respect that.
When I'm not fretting about the hoarding, I've been doing my homework! You know, keeping up with the young'uns. All these new cardio machines, resistance gizmos, and plate-loaded machines… it's a world of its own! The fitness world has expanded fast and far beyond the hardcore basement gym I’m used to. But I'm determined to make sure we get the best for the new Castle Gym.
And speaking of the best, Luke and I had a right treat this month! We were invited down to Everlast in Gateshead, their flagship gym. 37,000 square feet! Brand spanking new, only a year old. Core Health and Fitness really rolled out the red carpet. Great day, and a "GREAT" night, as Luke put it! Big thanks to Graham and El for their fantastic hospitality. It really opened our eyes to what's possible.
Then, to top it all off, we headed down to PerformX Live at the NEC. What a show! Luke and I met up with the folks from Core Health and Fitness again, had some great chats about pricing and all those fancy machines.
Back on site, I've been feeling a bit spoiled, I must admit. We've got a proper temporary office built upstairs now, and I've even got my own desk!
It's all coming together so fast. Every day, I see a little more of Castle Gym, the gym we’re building for the future. It's been 40 years of my life, this place, and I can't wait to see it filled with happy, healthy people again.
Until next time, keep those weights heavy and those spirits high!
-Ray.
